Introduction
Peace and blessings upon all lovers of Qalandar Pak (RA).
Before we explore the remarkable life and spirituality of Qalandar Pak (RA), it is vital to clarify some misconceptions regarding his date of birth, date of passing (Wissal), annual pilgrimage, and spiritual heirship. This clarity enables seekers to understand and spread the message of Surah Al-Rehman with devotion and continuity.
Note: Spreading the message of Surah Al-Rehman with selfless determination is the truest expression of love for Qalandar Pak (RA).
Birth and Early Life
Qalandar Pak (RA), also known as Kakianwali Sarkar (“Lord of Divine Motherhood”), was born as Syed Safdar Hussain Bukhari (RA) on Monday, May 6, 1940 (28th Rabi’ul Awwal 1359 Hijri) in Village Dhudhi Thal, Tehsil Pind Dadan Khan, District Jhelum. He belonged to a noble Syed family tracing lineage to Hazrat Makhdoom Jalaluddin Jahanian Jahangasht Suharwardy (RA).
His father, Syed Gulzar Hussain Bukhari, was a devoted follower of Hazrat Syed Sher Ali Shah Qalandar (RA) and spent years serving at his shrine in Qatal Garhi, District Kasur. A significant incident from Baba Ji’s childhood reveals his spiritual destiny — he was cured of a severe fever through the blessed gaze of Hazrat Sher Ali Shah (RA), who lovingly smiled at the child. This was seen as a sign of divine favor and mystical inheritance.
Qalandar Pak (RA) received early education in his village and graduated from Gordon College, Rawalpindi. Being the only son, he was raised with special care.
Departure to the Final Abode (Wissal)
Qalandar Pak (RA) passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 (29th Zilhaj 1425 Hijri) after Maghrib prayers, marking his return to his Beloved Creator (SWT). He spent his final days in Rawalpindi with the author, who was also his spiritual heir (Waris). Although plans for a permanent Astana were hindered by opposition, Allah SWT fulfilled Qalandar Pak’s (RA) desire to spend his last moments at the home of his beloved disciple.
His Final Days – The Divine Transition
In January 2005, Qalandar Pak (RA) was hospitalized at Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore with cardiac failure. Despite his apparent illness, he clarified it was not a medical condition but Maraz-ul-Mout — the divinely ordained ailment of passing. He described his state not as suffering but as a divine journey toward reunion with Allah SWT.
In his final moments, he spoke profoundly about the creation of the universe and the love of Allah, likening it to an intimate conversation between the Lover and the Beloved. His voice carried power and clarity, moving everyone present into a state of spiritual awakening.
He declared his imminent departure with composure and joy, expressing no fear — only longing and love for the Divine.
His Will (Wassiyat)
Qalandar Pak (RA) expressed his desire to be buried near Lilla Sharif, where a research auditorium on Surah Al-Rehman was planned. If not possible, he permitted his spiritual heir (Syed Baba) to choose a suitable resting place. He formally transferred his spiritual custodianship, saying, “From here on, Baba comes in your custody.”
Final Moments and Legacy
His final hours were filled with prayers, tears, and divine communication. The author repeatedly entered states of deep spiritual focus, invoking Allah SWT’s mercy and asking for eternal Ishq (Divine Love) for Baba Ji (RA).
Qalandar Pak (RA) told him:
“Tell everyone that Baba died long before; now Baba will never taste death again.”
He commanded that doctors and patients be gathered and informed about the blessings of Surah Al-Rehman. This final act underlines his lifelong mission — spreading the healing message of the Quran to suffering hearts.
A Glimpse into Eternity
As Qalandar Pak (RA) approached his transition, he radiated peace, strength, and detachment from the worldly realm. His death was not a moment of sorrow, but of triumph — the union of a lover with the Beloved.
He truly lived the words of Hazrat Sultan Bahu (RA):
“I died before dying — only then did I find meaning. I earned Ishq by surrendering myself entirely to the Will of Allah.“
